Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne (John Michael Osbourne) has written many songs and acquired many nicknames, from ‘The Prince of Darkness’ to ‘The Godfather of Heavy Metal’. He has achieved what very few other people in music have: every single record that Ozzy has released has gone platinum, most without a top 40 single, from his early days in Black Sabbath to his solo career. In his 50 year career he has performed at over two thousand concerts, starred in three dozen music videos, and created a travelling rock festival (Ozzfest) which he has not personally headlined in a number of years. In 2012 he reunited with Black Sabbath as a permanent member and has recently released a new album, 13, which was the band’s first #1 on the Billboard charts in their history.
Ozzy, the youngest of six Osbourne children, attended his high school in Birmingham, England in the 50’s and early 60’s. He was immediately drawn to performing, taking a role in the school production of “The Pirates of Penzance”. At the age of 15 he left school to find work as a labourer, plumber, toolmaker and even as a slaughterhouse worker.
