Robin Williams Yearbook Photos

Williams, 63,  took his own life in his California home two weeks ago.

The story told by viewing Robin Williams Yearbook Photos during his days as a student, tells us that  Robin Williams wasn’t the class clown many thought he was.

Williams_3“No, no, I was president of the class,” he told the Detroit Free Press in 1996. “I loved school, maybe too much really. I was summa cum laude in high school. I was driven that way. I can’t say it was easy to fit in. I just went out of my way to fit in. It was a private boys school, Detroit Country Day, and I played soccer. I was on the wrestling team. Mr. All-Around, you know?”

Williams_2Williams’ high school sounded a lot like the Welton Academy in “Dead Poets Society.”

“I was getting pushed around a lot,” Williams revealed to The Oklahoman in 1991. “Not only was there like physical bullying, but there was intellectual bullying going on. It made me toughen up, but it also made me pull back a lot. I had a certain reticence about dealing with people. Through comedy, I found a way to bridge the gap …”

Williams_1It wasn’t until he moved to Larkspur, California, that he joined the drama club and discovered his talent as an actor.  He will be missed!

Life is especially sweet for Thomas Jacob “Jack” Black.   The son of two rocket scientists, with four elder siblings he found himself in the classic battle for attention that most youngest-born children have to face.  As a child, his first appearance in the public eye was in 1982 for a commercial for the Activision game, Pitfall (video).  It was clear from an early age that Black possessed something of a flair for acting and by the time he reached his teens, his parents urged him to switch to the Poseidon School, an exclusive privately run school that specialized in students who had trouble ‘fitting in’ with traditional educational systems.

He soon earned a place studying theater arts at UCLA, but dropped out in his second year to pursue his acting career, specifically a supporting role in the Tim Robbins film “Bob Roberts“.  His breakout role was as the wild employee in John Cusack’s record store in 2000’s High Fidelity, quickly afterwards he was landing larger and larger roles in films such as Shallow Hal, School of Rock and King Kong.

Lately, Jack Black has been headlining and touring with his band Tenacious D, who have had their own show on HBO, their own major movie release, and most recently their third major album “Rize of the Fenix” was certified Gold in 2013.

Here’s Jack Black’s yearbook photo from his days at the Poseidon School.

Ronald Reagan’s Yearbook Sold for $2K on Pawn Stars

There are very few Americans that are as universally respected as Ronald Reagan.  From his humble beginnings in rural Illinois where he attended Dixon High School, he showed an early interest in acting, sports and storytelling.  Reagan was the captain of the Swim Team, a member of the football team, and was elected Student Body President in 1920, a full 60 years before he would be elected as the President of the United States in 1980.

Last year, on History Channel’s popular reality show “Pawn $tars” , a customer brought in a rare Yearbook he claimed was from the former President.    As usual, co-star Corey Harrison, of Gold and Silver Pawn Shop of Las Vegas, had to call in his experts to authenticate the yearbook.   Watch what happens next!

This is a great example of why you should always hang on to your Yearbooks, because one day you or one of your classmates may become the President of the United States!

Have you ever had a fellow student or classmate become famous, and do you still have the Yearbook?  Leave us a comment below, and check out our other Celebrity Yearbook posts.

Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne (John Michael Osbourne) has written many songs and acquired many nicknames, from ‘The Prince of Darkness’ to ‘The Godfather of Heavy Metal’.  He has achieved what very few other people in music have: every single record that Ozzy has released has gone platinum, most without a top 40 single, from his early days in Black Sabbath to his solo career.  In his 50 year career he has performed at over two thousand concerts, starred in three dozen music videos, and created a travelling rock festival (Ozzfest) which he has not personally headlined in a number of years.  In 2012 he reunited with Black Sabbath as a permanent member and has recently released a new album, 13, which was the band’s first #1 on the Billboard charts in their history.

Ozzy, the youngest of six Osbourne children, attended his high school in Birmingham, England in the 50’s and early 60’s.  He was immediately drawn to performing, taking a role in the school production of “The Pirates of Penzance”.   At the age of 15 he left school to find work as a labourer, plumber, toolmaker and even as a slaughterhouse worker.

Here’s Ozzy Osbourne’s ninth grade Yearbook photo from 1960 in Birmingam, England.

In 2013, Martha Stewart is a household name, business magnate, author, television personality, publisher, and an industry unto herself.   But back in the mid 50’s when she was known as Martha Kostrya, she was far from your average New Jersey high school student.  She was a babysitter for such famous Baseball players as Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra, she was a model at age 15, and appeared in many commercials throughout her teenage and college career.

Here’s Martha Stewart’s high school photo, from the 1957 Nutley High School Yearbook in Nutley, New Jersey.

Long before your favorite celebrities became famous, many of them were once very typical high school students with awkward yearbook photos, just like you and I.  Many of them with fascinating and terrible hairdos that should be long forgotten, some of them wearing clothes that the fashion world has left behind.  Far, far behind.

Here’s a look at some of the nominees for the upcoming 2013 Emmy awards.
