Yes!  We’ve drastically lowered prices for stand alone registrations this season ($75 per license is almost unheard of in this industry), but did you know that you can get even more of a discount when you sign up as a publisher?SpecialOffer

Our publisher signup/renewal fee is still $250.00 per season, and as of this year you get a lot more out of it:

License Discount:

All of our publishers get a 25% discount on every license purchased.  Are you doing 14 books or more?  If you are, then signing up as a publisher pays for itself in license discounts alone.

Private Label Branding:

We used to charge over and above our publisher renewal fee to include your company’s logo and contact information in the software.  Now, we offer this to everyone who signs up as a publisher.

Electronic Submission:

This is a feature that’s available to all of our registered publishers.  Once your customer is finished designing their book, they can submit the PDF to you electronically.

PDF Security:

Lock your end user’s high resolution PDFs with the password of your choice.  Ensure that your schools print their books through you.

Logo

It’s September!  As usual, we like to celebrate the back to school season with a new release of our Yearbook authoring software.  This development season we’ve primarily been working to keep the program up to date with the most recent operating systems, on both Windows and Mac.  We’ve also been working on updating our program’s interface, making it more intuitive to use, and with fewer errors.

Lower_PriceNew Price Point:

It’s no secret that we’re competing against a growing online market.  Even though the online solutions available today aren’t as reliable as our desktop solution, the convenience and marketability of them can make for a tough sale.  We’re pleased to announce that we substantially lowered the license costs for our desktop software.  As of this season, we’re selling individual licenses for $75 each.  Folks who are signed up as our publishers receive a discount on all licenses.  We hope that this makes it easier for you to market our solution to your schools.

YourLogo2Branding is Now Included in Publisher Renewal Fee:

We’ve always offered branding in our software, but until now we’ve been charging $500.00 for this service, on top of our standard publisher signup or renewal fee.  As of this season, we will begin offering branding (Your company’s logo and contact information) to all of our publishers, included in the regular publisher signup/renewal fees.  We will still be charging a premium if you need custom artwork, panels, or page sizes, but the charge for these will be much lower than previous years as well.

edgeeffectEdge Effects are Back:

Our customers spoke, and we listened!  Edge effects (The clipping masks that can be used on portraits and candids) have been added back into the page editor, and the panel flow wizard.  We still have the same draw problem where the transparent parts show up as white on the page editor, but the transparency is crisp and perfect in every PDF.  Enjoy!

Major Bugs Resolved:Bug

Last season we released a new page editor, and as is typical with new technology, we did run into a few annoying bugs.  Thankfully we were able to work around these issues last season, but the better news is that we’ve resolved most of them for this season.  The PDF errors (Box size, and dropping backgrounds to name a couple of the majors) have been resolved, a few of the buttons have been rearranged to make things feel more natural, and a full round of testing has gone into the major features and functions.

We are extremely pleased with the results!  Designing a Yearbook that you are going to enjoy for years to come is a FUN process, and our new logo captures those feelings while showing off a young and professional attitude.  The ‘Book’ image even has a ‘soft cover’ look to it, which we know is quite a popular style of publishing your Yearbook.

Our previous logo (the famous Schoolhouse) was a derivative of the original logo from the first version of the software in 2000, and was created in 2007 by another local graphic artist, Andy Clequin.   Andy also designed our current corporate website (www.nwsp.ca) as well as many other graphic projects with NWSP.

Download Yearbooks Desktop v14.00 for Windows and Mac OS

Posted by: admin In: Press Release 13 Sep 2013 Comments: 0 Tags: Backgrounds, Canvas, clipart, download, Mac, OS X, v14.00, Windows

We are extremely pleased to announce that we have released our newest version of Yearbooks Desktop and posted it to the web.  We invite you to visit our downloads page and try it out!logo

This exciting new version features a brand new work-space plug-in for the page editor, called Canvas, which actually debuted in last year’s Mac OSX edition.

Speaking of Canvas, in this new edition we have developed one page editor for both versions, so once again we have complete and true cross-compatibility (data files from the Windows edition will open perfectly in the Mac edition).   As a publisher, when a customer returns their data to you for final printing – it no longer matters what edition of Yearbooks Desktop you prefer to run, the book will look precisely as it should.   Along with a new work-space in the page editor, Canvas allows us to use a floating toolbar and a right click menu, and subsequently we have moved many of the most commonly used features to the new interface.  The end result is quite spectacular as it gives you much more ‘real estate’ (working space) on the page editor itself.

Along with a new editor, we have completely refreshed the program’s media library.   Hundreds of brand new, fresh, modern images have been added to our backgrounds and clip-art archives.   These are automatically installed with the software and you can start using them immediately.   Don’t fret, the old media libraries are still available and will be available for download on this website in the very near future.

Finally, our collage tool has been integrated into our template tool, to facilitate groups of images being flown into predetermined template patterns with just a few mouse clicks.  The program will even automatically generate the required number of pages based on the number of images you’ve selected.   This tool is a great starting point for creating page samples.

We have also created a brand new website for the 2014 season which we hope will serve your needs much better.  I’ll share more details about the website over the next few weeks.  For now, get downloading!

John Wayne’s Senior Year High School Yearbook Was Bought For A Dollar On ‘Pawn Stars’

Posted by: admin In: Press Release 14 Nov 2012 Comments: 0 Tags: candids, john, john wayne, pawn, pawn stars, photography, stars, wayne, year book, yearbook

Following our recent trend of reporting on celebrity yearbook photos, we came across a story about a man who made a real find at an estate sale.

Man Bought John Wayne’s Senior Year High School Yearbook For One Dollar

A lucky man who picked up John Wayne’s high school yearbook for only a dollar brought it into the “Pawn Stars” to see what they thought of the rare item.

Wayne’s name was Marion Morrison back then, and the guys at the shop quickly discovered that he was all over that yearbook. The yearbook was from Morrison’s senior year, and he played football, was class president and was very active in the arts. And each photo of him throughout the yearbook made it a better and better find.

The shop was thrilled with the yearbook and made a deal with the customer to buy it for $800. Considering he’d spent $1, that turned out to be a great purchase for him. And he got to see a fun piece of a movie legend’s history.

Bob Dylan’s signed yearbook is for sale

Posted by: admin In: Press Release 07 Nov 2012 Comments: 0 Tags: bob, desktop, dylan, photography, student, students, year book, yearbook

Christie’s is hosting an exciting entertainment memorabilia auction this month, including rare items such as a smashed bass guitar from Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ music video, Indiana Jones’ whip, Mick Jagger’s performance outfit, and Bob Dylan’s signed yearbook with some advice to a fellow musician.

Dylan’s 1958 yearbook features a photo of then 17-year-old Robert Zimmerman, with a handwritten message to a friend reading, “Dear Jerry. Well the year’s almost over now huh. Remember the ‘sessions’ down at Collier. Keep practicing the guitar and maybe someday you’ll be great. A friend, Bob Zimmerman.”

The yearbook is expected to go for up to £6,000.(approx. $10,000US).

Nirvana’s Zen-On bass guitar was purchased by Krist Novoselic at a pawn shop for a nominal fee, knowing that it would be smashed to bits in the music video. Some of the guitar pieces were saved by an extra on set, and are now expected to fetch upwards of £25,000 (approx. $40,000US).

Mick Jagger’s flashy sleeveless white velour jumpsuit with silver metal details, designed by Ossie Clark, was worn by the singer at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on his 29th birthday, and is expected to sell for between £8,000 and £12,000 (approx. $13,000-$19,000US).

This has been a successful launch!
